Odell, Boulevard and Ska Show New Beers in Vail

VAIL, CO – Sabotage equates to a ‘wonderfully drinkable, velvety smooth’ beer? Odell Brewing Co. of Ft. Collins, CO claims that their commemorative beer for the Big Beers, Belgians & Barleywines Festival Tenth Anniversary is the result of exactly that. This extremely limited release brew, appropriately coined “Saboteur”, will be released at the Vail Cascade Resort & Spa on January 8, 2010 at the Welcome Reception along with 20 others, including contributions from Boulevard Brewing Co. from Kansas City, MO and Ska Brewing Co. hailing from Durango, CO.

“Groovy little bugs” inoculated the oak barrels that Ska Brewing Co. used to age their commemorative beer, which is described as a “Belgian inspired sour pale ale”. Ska Sour Ale will be released at the Big Beers Festival and then be distributed regionally as the brewery’s winter seasonal offering. The Welcome Reception is one of many such specialty seminars, tastings, Brewmasters’ Dinners and other events that comprise the 3 day celebratory weekend. Ten years has brought over 5000 attendees to Vail to enjoy its winter wonderland in conjunction with this unique, international, white tablecloth event designed to honor the artists and educate the attendee about the world of beer. Steven Pauwels, Brewmaster for Boulevard Brewing Co. will be on hand to showcase his Boulevard Dubbel, a special batch that will be available only to festival attendees in Vail and guests in Boulevard’s Tasting Room in Kansas City. Dark candi sugar and a spice blend including coriander, cinnamon and star anise are key components in this original creation, yielding a brew that is “complex in taste and finishes dry and very drinkable”….and is 8.5% alcohol by volume.

To sample these commemorative beers and those created by their fellow Brewmasters at the Welcome Reception, join the celebration by purchasing tickets for the Saturday Commercial Tasting & Seminars, the Calibration Dinner featuring Adam Avery of Avery Brewing Co. and Sam Calagione of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, or the Brewmasters’ Dinner hosted by Lodewijk Swinkels of LaTrappe at Bierbrouwerij Koningshoeven and Peter Bouckaert of New Belgium Brewing Co. All participants of weekend activities are invited to celebrate at the Welcome Reception, which is underwritten by All About Beer Magazine. Tickets and event schedule, including information about the Vail Valley Charitable Fund as the beneficiary, are available at www.BigBeersFestival.com.
