Pagosa, LaTrappe and Dry Dock Build Upon Tradition

VAIL, CO – The United States will have its first opportunity to sample a barrel aged brew from LaTrappe at the Tenth Anniversary of the Big Beers, Belgians & Barleywines Festival on the weekend of January 7 – 9, 2010. Lodewijk Swinkels, Brewmaster for LaTrappe at Bierbrouwerij Koningshoeven in Berkel Enschot, The Netherlands, will be on hand at the Vail Cascade Resort & Spa to introduce the brewery’s signature Quadrupel aged in oak barrels. Dry Dock Brewing of Aurora, CO and Pagosa Brewing Co hailing from Pagosa Springs, CO also have created commemorative beers based upon traditional styles.

Kevin DeLange, Owner/Operator of Dry Dock Brewing and winner of the 2009 Small Brewery of the Year at the Great American Beer Festival, will be releasing a traditionally made, German style Strong Eisbock in honor of the Big Beers Festival’s Tenth Anniversary. DeLange joins 20 breweries from around the world to release new beers in Vail at the Welcome Reception, underwritten by All About Beer Magazine, on Friday, January 8 at noon. The destination for more than 5000 guests and participants over its decade of showing “big”, Belgian style and experimental beers, the festival features Brewmasters’ dinners, educational seminars and a food & beer pairing challenge in addition to its signature Commercial Tasting offering over 200 international selections. “Being fortunate enough to have participated and thoroughly enjoyed the Big Beers Fest since the first Brewmasters’ Dinner, we chose to create ‘Old Geezer’, a classic Winter Warmer for the 10th Anniversary Commemorative Brew”, said Tony Simmons, Head Brewer & President of Pagosa Brewing. “We feel that it embodies the rich and classic spirit of the Big Beers Festival!”

The Big Beers Welcome Reception is open to all festival participants and attendees holding tickets for any of the myriad of weekend events.
